Position on Israel

On Israel – My Position

Lasting Peace in the Middle East must include the right of Israel to exist.

As a candidate running for U.S. Senate from the State of Maryland, I field many questions on domestic and international issues, but recently I was asked about peace in the Middle East?

I will tell you as the Son of a Pastor, who has been traveling to the Holy Land many times, I fully understand the Biblical aspects of Israel’s right to exist, and as a American I understand that Israel is our only true ally and friend in the Middle East and should never be pushed into a phony peace that undermines her existence.

I do support a two state solution that will maintain a true peace between Palestinians and the Jewish State. That peace must include confirmation by the Palestinians that Israel has the right to exist side by side with a Palestinian State in lasting peace.

Palestinian Officials must reign in militant groups, who fire rockets into Israel from Gaza, bring militant groups such as Hamas under their control and have them confirm the right of Israel to exist as well as end the preaching of hatred towards the Jewish People.

I understand that Israel will have to make concessions of her own such as the free movement of the Palestinian People between the Gaza Strip and West Bank, the unabated movement of humanitarian and other non-military aid to the Palestinian State as well as the right of refugees to return to those areas under the control of a future Palestinian State.

One concession I will never make as a U.S. Senator is the division of Jerusalem. Palestinian officials must understand that Jerusalem is the Capital of the Jewish State and their capital must be within their state.

As a U.S. Senator, I intend to sponsor a resolution that confirms the status of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the Jewish State as well as one that will include the movement of the U.S. Embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem as every other U.S. Embassy is located within the Capital City of other nations.

I will also confirm Israel’s right to retaliate against any nation(s) or group(s) that threatens her existence with weapons of mass destruction.

Nations such as Iran and Syria which have sought weapons of mass destruction to use against Israel should know that as a Senator, I will fully support any Israeli retaliation that is used to protect the Jewish State. I do support a “carrot and stick” approach for nations who are willing to join the international community as we seek a lasting peace in the Middle East. Iran and Syria must reign in militant groups such as Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon which have been firing rockets into northern Israel, unabated for years.

Israel does have the right to retaliate against such group which includes seizing their funding and dismantling their supply lines within in territories controlled by Syria and Lebanon.

Officials in Iran, Syria and Lebanon must bring these militant groups under control, end the free flow of weapons through their territories and disband them ahead of a lasting peace agreement.

Israel’s enemies must understand that the State of Israel is here to stay and it would be better for them to realize the right of the Jewish State to exist and join in seeking a lasting peace, rather than continuing to engage in the never ending circles of defeat, humiliation, and hatred.

That includes the dismantling of the nuclear threat in Iran and all other countries in the Middle East

As one of your one hundred U.S. Senators, it is my hope that I can be instrumental in fostering true peace in Middle East with all parties living side by side peacefully and Israel being recognized among all nations.
